Ms. Coolidge Newsletter
September 25-29, 2017
The earlier hot, sticky, summery days made sitting together as one big group at Circletime rather challenging! However, we are doing our best to remember to use kind words and actions to help out when someone is being annoying and/or we are feeling frustrated! We’ve had a lot of fun with our seriously silly “Rules” … “Do not bathe in chocolate pudding…” and are wonderful listeners at storytime. The marble jar is slowly but surely filling up, and we hope to earn a fish for our tank before too long.
We’ve been celebrating Johnny Appleseed’s birthday this week, enjoying some apple poems (“When you bite, listen for the crunch of boots on snow…”), and having a good time with apple math and baking an apple pie. Thanks for all the apple donations! Our easy apple pie recipe is on the back of this newsletter.
The letter “Mm” has been introduced, along with the sign language and motion/sound for the letter. The children all have their own journals now and seem to be enjoying our newly initiated “Writing Workshop” in the mornings. At Circletime we often brainstorm ideas/true stories that we can draw/write about, and then start with an illustration. I’ve been modeling, and the Kindergartners are learning to stretch out the words to put down the sounds they hear. Stories are then date stamped and some shared.
We’ve been noticing Monarch butterflies out in our Secret Garden and are keeping a close eye on our chrysalis, which is becoming translucent, due to hatch soon! We have been working on “Science Observations” of the Monarch, and some of us were even able to watch a butterfly in the garden use its proboscis to sip nectar from a flower.
OPEN HOUSE next Thurs. Oct.5 from 6-7:30 p.m.The children will show you around our classroom, share their work, and introduce you to their new friends. There will be a Book Fair in the Library as well.
Have a lovely, relaxing fall weekend.
