Ms. Coolidge Newsletter
October 23-26, 2017
Halloween energy has been swirling around with the usual highs and lows this week!? Some of our favorite books include “No Such Thing”, “There’s a Monster Under My Bed”, and “There is a Nightmare in My Closet”. We’ve had some great conversations about what scares us (noises in the night, bad guys, strangers…) and what we can do to feel better (don’t watch scary movies, take it out of your mind and put something good in…). The Kindergartners will be working on creating little books about this and I hope they will share them with you!
In science we’ve been talking about skeletons - there are 206 bones in a human skeleton! We’ve been enjoying our “Let’s Find Out” magazine about bats and nocturnal animals. And we each planted a daffodil bulb in our Secret Garden before the rain came too.
We’ve been learning about shapes, and talking about order by size, length and weight in Math.
This week we reviewed the letter Tt, and Kindergartners are learning the new word “like”. During “Writing Workshop” we’ve been taking turns sharing our stories, asking clarifying questions, and offering thoughtful comments, as we work on adding details and what comes next. I am tickled with how the children are beginning to work more independently - stretching out the words and putting down the sounds they hear.
