Ms. Coolidge Newsletter
It seems we are off to a good start, in spite of some days of dreary weather! 17 is a big class and naturally it’s taking some time to settle into a comfortable routine. However, although weary by the end of the day, the children come in smiley and full of chatter.
This first week of school we have been focusing on getting to know each other, our classroom routines and expectations. We are learning about becoming a family of friends - doing our best to be safe, respectful and responsible. We are all excited about earning marbles for thoughtful, kind behavior. Our goal is to fill up the jar and earn a fish for our classroom fish tank!
We have been talking about how everyone is special and the Kindergartners have been drawing/writing about who they are (“I am an artist.” “I am a dog lover.”), and the new friends they are making in school. In Math we have been reviewing the #1-3, recording the weather and date in our folders, and talking about same and different attributes.
We made a fresh batch of playdough, it being one of the favorite choices, opened up the Listening Center with “Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten”,and had a Guided Discovery of our class Legos!
A highlight of our week was the creation of a huge gingerbread baby and having her run away. With great glee and anticipation the children followed clues all through the school (Hee hee, you can’t catch me! I’m off to look at books at the____). We discovered the gingerbread baby in our principal Mrs. Prileson’s office and quickly gobbled her up!
Specials include Monday: Music with Mr. Judge, Tuesday: Art with Ms.O’Connor, Wed. & Thurs. p.m. P.E. for K’s with Ms. Abraham, and Friday: Library with Ms. Jones. Miss Jane is our morning para.
I trust you all are relaxing into school along with your children! Have a refreshing weekend, and do keep in touch.
