We had an awesome Open House last week, with over 80% of our students’ parents and other family members here that evening. Thank you so much for coming out to meet our teachers and learn more about the programs and volunteer opportunities here. Also, Ms. Jones exceeded her Book Fair goals by several hundred dollars – great news for our Library! This week, our students have been:
Testing magnets in PreK with Ms. Dyke and Ms. Patenaude;
Learning about photosynthesis reactions with Mr. Colombo;
Adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers with Mr. Budd;
Learning more about the Ladybug Award nominees with Ms. Jones;
Using Grecian pottery designs to learn about Greek history with Ms. Tilton;
Completing spelling tests and continuing their handwriting practice with Ms. Clement;
Studying changes in types of plants over time with Ms. Udelhofen;
Playing disc golf with Mr. Holloway;
Learning how to read ‘I can see a ____’ statements with Ms. Coolidge;
Analyzing the play 12 Angry Men with Ms. Dangelo.
We ended the week with a positively charged assembly in the gym, put on by the TIGER theater group from Plymouth State University. After the assembly, students met in smaller groups for PSU student-led theater workshops to follow up on messages from the TIGER group, with the theme ‘I’ve Got Your Back’. We thank the CCPTO for funding this anti-bullying program; our students really got involved, interacting and engaging with the PSU theater students. Ask your student to show them the bookmark that each received at the end of the workshop!
Coming up! Please mark your calendars for:
From the CCPTO: Please remember to clip and send in any box tops from around your house this weekend. Our 1st collection of the school year is Monday Oct. 15th. We will keep track of what each class collects for a friendly competition through the school year; usually the proceeds are used to purchase playground equipment.
Monday, Oct. 15: Flu Shot Clinic (free for Cornish students)
Monday, Oct. 15: School Board Meeting in the Library at 6:30 pm
Thursday/Friday Nov. 1 & 2: Parent-Teacher conferences!
Saturday November 3: Save the date! The Cornish Elementary School Class of 2019 will be hosting an auction to raise money for their class trip to Washington, DC. If you have something that you would be willing to donate to the auction, please contact Kristine Newbold, Corinne Kelliher or Kate Barber.
I wish each of you a restful weekend; warmest regards,
Jennifer Prileson, Principal
