October 19, 2018
Due to some safety concerns, we are planning to make some changes to the end of day pick-up process, which will go into effect the Monday after Thanksgiving. Those details, including a map, will be shared in the next week or two. In the meantime, we need your assistance with end-of-day dismissal involving cars or trucks. Parents who pick up their students by private vehicle have two options: (1)park in the lower lot and come into the school to escort your child back to the vehicle, or wait by the Southeast gate for your child to meet you there; (2) wait in a single file lane along the front fence and leave in the order of your arrival. Students will be sent or escorted out to you as soon as the supervisors recognize the driver and/or vehicle in order to be certain the right child is going home with the right adult.
Those parents who are picking up PreK students or who need to come in to meet with a staff member should park in the lower front lot so that those waiting in line are not delayed. Those waiting in single file along the gate, please do not drive over the orange cones or around vehicles waiting in front of you or park over on the left side of the drive, as this poses a danger to our children and a potential collision risk with another vehicle. Also, please remain with your vehicle until your child is sent out to the front gate.
Our students’ safety is our highest priority, even if it means that a few drivers and passengers have to wait an extra minute or two while we get the front cars loaded and on their way. Thank you for your help!
This morning we had a fire safety demonstration, put on by the Cornish Fire Department! Thanks to John Drye and his crew for the informative and exciting lesson. Ask your child what “PASS” means! Attached to this letter is some information from last week’s Fire Prevention Week. We hope you will take a few minutes to review this important flier.
Thanks also go out to Mr. Wayne Gray, Mr. Shane Smith and Mr. Chris Chilton for their assistance in moving the soccer goals for our P.E. program. Mr. Holloway and his students are very grateful for their support!
Coming up! Please mark your calendars for:
Thursday/Friday Nov. 1 & 2: Parent-Teacher conferences! Your child’s teacher may be in touch with you to schedule a conference; please be on the lookout for an email or written request to meet and review your child’s progress to date. If you would like to schedule a conference, please get in touch directly with your child’s Lower Wing homeroom teacher (grades 1-4) or with Dale Lawrence to arrange a conference with Upper Wing teachers (grades 5-8).
Saturday November 3: Save the date! The Cornish Elementary School Class of 2019 will be hosting an auction to raise money for their class trip to Washington, DC. If you have something that you would be willing to donate to the auction, please contact Kristine Newbold, Corinne Kelliher or Kate Barber.
Friday November 9: Literacy Day! Please consult the flier for details from Ms. Jones going home with your child this afternoon.
Have a wonderful weekend; warmest regards,
Jennifer Prileson, Principal
