Dear Parents,

We’ve had another busy week here at Cornish!  Students have been:

  • To the Precision Museum and St. Gaudens with Ms. Wolfinger and Ms. Dangelo;

  • Introduced to playing the recorder by Mr. Foye in grades 3 & 4;

  • Learning shortcuts to multiplication problems in grade 5 Math with Mr. Budd;

  • To a play at Northern Stage with Ms. Dangelo, Mrs. Storrs and grade 7 & 8 classmates;

  • Drawing pictures to go along with the stories they are writing for Ms. Clement-Edward;

  • Building with the new cardboard blocks in PreK with Ms. Patenaude and Ms. Dyke;

  • Doing ‘lunch bunch’ time with Ms. Whalen;

  • Using a new technique similar to batik, but on paper, with Ms. Wolfinger in art class;

  • Developing soccer techniques through drills and modified games with Mr. Holloway;

  • Studying how galaxies and planets formed with Mr. Colombo;

  • Writing their first 5-paragraph essay for Ms. Tilton.

Thank you for helping with the new pick-up system after school; we appreciate your help and patience as we work to maintain student safety.  The new after-school pick-up procedure will begin the Monday after Thanksgiving; stay tuned for a flier with a map and directions!

Coming up soon!  Please mark your calendars for:

  • Tonight!  Grade 6-7-8 Halloween Dance: This is an 8th grade fundraiser, so don’t miss out.  See you tonight in the gym, 6:30-9:00 pm in your costume!

  • Thursday/Friday Nov. 1 & 2:  Parent-Teacher conferences! Your child’s teacher may be in touch with you to schedule a conference; please be on the lookout for an email or written request to meet and review your child’s progress to date. If you would like to schedule a conference, please get in touch directly with your child’s Lower Wing homeroom teacher (grades 1-4); Upper Wing teachers (grades 5-8) are sending home schedule preferences which Dale Lawrence will be putting together soon and sending home.

  • Saturday November 3:  Save the date! The Cornish Elementary School Class of 2019 will be hosting an auction to raise money for their class trip to Washington, DC. If you have something that you would be willing to donate to the auction, please contact Kristine Newbold, Corinne Kelliher or Kate Barber.

  • Friday November 9: Literacy Day!  Be sure to fill out last week’s permission form from Ms. Jones if your student would like to participate.

I wish each of you a relaxing weekend; warmest regards,
