April 2-6, 2018 *Class Color: GREEN!
I really enjoyed meeting with you all at conference time. I appreciate the opportunity to sit down quietly, with few distractions, to talk about your children and share our perspectives. Thank you.
We all are feeling rather restless with Spring fever, and very relieved to be able to do away at least with snow pants, if not boots. The little grass heads we planted in honor of Spring have finally sprouted some hair and should be ready for crew cuts soon. We’ve been sharing and writing about the signs of Spring we’ve noticed so far, saying goodbye to “snowflakes on tongues” “plowing”... and hello to “buds”, “warm sun”, “carrying things in my wagon”...
Thursday we are looking forward to our next “Four Winds” lesson on “White-tailed Deer”. Hopefully the weather will cooperate so we can be outdoors for a good part of it.
With the help of our Gr. 1/2 and 3/4 Reading Buddies, we have gotten very close to meeting our goal of reading 100 books as a class. We will celebrate next Thurs. April 12 with a “Go Back to Bed and Read” morning. The children may wear/ bring in their PJ’s or bathrobes and slippers, favorite books and a stuffie. We might make pancakes. Would anyone be able to donate some maple syrup?!
Meanwhile, Kindergartners have been reviewing the letters Yy and Zz and the high frequency words this, what, said and want. In Math we have been focusing on writing addition sentences and representing addition stories. Mrs. Thornton now joins us during math time in the afternoons, which has been a great help as we are able to work more closely with small groups and individual, introducing a variety of games and activities to reinforce the skills being taught. Practice at home with the facts to 5 will further support your Kindergartner.
Next Tuesday April 10 I will be away at a Math conference. Mrs. Weeks will be subbing for me, and again on Friday April 13.
May Spring show her shining face soon! Be well and enjoy. Ms.C.
