Ms. Coolidge Newsletter
April 30 - May 4, 2018
The full moon on Monday seemed to have brought all sorts of turbulence to our classroom. Thankfully the following days of warm sunshine brightened spirits considerably. We will continue to get out into our Secret Garden as much as possible, so it would be a good idea to send in a hat/cap for your child and apply sunscreen. Thanks.
Our essential question this week has been “What do good citizens do?” We continue our discussions about taking care of the earth, our classroom, and helping out at home. We all enjoyed the Big Book “Hen Hears Gossip”, after playing a round of “telephone”. We talked about how important it is to listen carefully to what is being said and using kind words and actions to work out tangles.
Kindergartners are working with the long vowel “i” as in bike, and the high frequency words “play” and “has”. In Math we have been practicing number sentences including the symbols “=”, “+”, and “-”. The children have been having fun with Leap Frog Math, Chicka Chicka 1 2 3, Snap It, and Shake those Beans.
PreK’s helped make some fresh, golden play dough, and on Fun Friday we are looking forward to making Mud Pie, complete with gummy worms to celebrate the end (?) of Mud Season!
On Wednesday we registered 4 new Kindergartners and 6 new PreK’s! The School Board has made the decision to separate the two classes next school year, given the growing numbers. Details will be worked out in the near future. This is exciting news for Cornish as more young families join our community!
Have a lovely Spring weekend. Take good care and keep in touch.
