We are off to a wonderful start, in spite of the terribly hot, long first days of school! 12 is a fine number for a Kindergarten class and it shouldn’t be long before we settle into a comfortable routine. Although weary by days end, the children come in smiley and full of chatter.
This first week of school we have been focusing on getting to know each other, our classroom routines and expectations. We all shared what we hope to do in Kindergarten- play with our friends in the Housekeeping Corner, spend time in the Secret Garden, go on trips… We are learning about becoming a family of friends - doing our best to be safe, respectful and responsible. This is a delightful group!
We read “The Rainbow Fish” and have been talking about how everyone is special. The children created glitter names and have been drawing/writing about what they hope to do in Kindergarten. In Math we have been reviewing the #1-3, and talking about same and different attributes. I am excited about working with our two Math specialists, Ms. Sinclair and Mrs. Bonneau, who join us after lunch and rest time. The children seem to be greatly enjoying rotating among the Math Centers we each are covering. It is an active, fun time, with one of the centers being afternoon “Snack and Pack” (ask your child!).
A highlight of our week was the creation of a huge gingerbread baby and having her run away. With great glee and anticipation the children followed clues all through the school (Hee hee, you can’t catch me! I’m off to look at books at the____). We discovered the gingerbread baby in Dale’s office and quickly gobbled her up!
Specials include Monday: Music with Mr. Foye, Tues. & Wed. P.E. with Ms. Abraham, Thursday Library with Ms. Jones, and Friday Art with Ms. Wolfinger. Mrs. Formachelli is our helping teacher.
I trust you all are relaxing into school along with your children! Have a refreshing weekend, and do keep in touch.
