Kindergarten Newsletter

February 4-8, 2019

Dear Families,

Maybe not surprisingly, every Kindergartner voted for an early spring, rather than more winter. This nasty ice is ruining that lovely snow! Adair wrote he wanted an early spring because it will make his mom happy. Alyia is looking forward to doing outside projects, and Nora loves picnics in the grass in the Secret Garden. Me too!

Meanwhile, we have been reviewing the letters and sounds we’ve learned so far, including “Kk” and “ck”, the short vowels a,e,i,o (and after vacation u, as in up), and the words: he, with, she, was, little, is. Please be sure to ask your child to practice read “Dad is Back”.

We have had a lot of fun with our exploration of “Forces and Motion”, and watched some great videos on big machines. You may have heard about our Bumper Bowling and wrecking ball experiment too.

This coming Tuesday we will be celebrating our 100th day of school, unless we have another Snow day before then!? Please help your child to count out a collection of 100 small items that fit in his/her backpack (ten piles of ten) to bring in to share that day. We will be talking about our favorite day of the 100 so far and trying to imagine what it’d be like to be 100 years old!

We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on Thursday, and will be busy decorating mailboxes before then. We will bake a cake and have a simple celebration at snack time.

Kindergarten Progress Reports will be sent home today. Please disregard the attendance as that computer program/glitch has yet to be sorted out. Parent teacher conferences will be scheduled for March 11 & 12. Please know however, that I’m happy to meet before that if you have questions or concerns. Do keep in touch.

If I don’t get around to a newsletter before our winter break, I trust the children will enjoy having some down time and hopefully get outside and play as it begins to warm up. Take good care and be well.
