 March 1, 2019

Dear Parents,

Everyone returned from winter vacation all rested up for the next round of school.  It’s been great to observe students as they:

  • Completed the Ninja Warrior obstacle course, jump rope and shoot hoops as part of Mr. Holloway’s Heart Healthy Month activities;

  • Made observations of the trout eggs developing in Ms. Coolidge’s classroom (check out our website for photos!);

  • Worked with ratios and equivalent fractions in Mr. Budd’s math class;

  • Recorded and then played back their reading of a story in Ms. Varga’s classroom;

  • Analyzed animal skulls, teeth and jaws to identify herbivores, carnivores and omnivores with 4Winds and Ms. Clement;

  • Read Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings with Ms. Dangelo-Worth, analyzing passages and making connections between poetry from Beowulf and World War I imagery.

More basketball activities are being made available!  Starting tomorrow, March 2, the Cornish School gymnasium will be open on Saturdays from 9-11 am for students to come and play basketball.  Except for March 9 (School District Meeting day), this open gym time for basketball will continue for 8 Saturdays.  In addition, AAU basketball will be taking place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.  Please contact Mr. Greg Clark and Mr. Justin Ranney for more details.

A note from The Abbey Group:  March 4th -8th is National School Breakfast week.  Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Statistics show that Students that participate in school breakfast show improved attendance, behavior,  and standardized achievement test scores as well as decreased tardiness.  During March 4th -8th the cafeteria will be handing out activity sheets. Also all Students that participate in school breakfast will be entered in a raffle to win a basketball.

Coming Up Soon!

March 4: Dr. Seuss’s Birthday – special ‘green eggs and ham’ lunch from Abbey Group

March 5: CCPTO meeting, 7:00 pm in the Library

March 9: School District Meeting, 1:00 pm in the Gym (2019-20 Budget and other warrant articles up for vote); free babysitting by our 8th grade students is available in the Kindergarten classroom during the meeting!

Enjoy the weekend!  Warmest regards,   Jennifer Prileson
