Dear Families, *Needed: recycled materials for Leprechaun traps!*
Exciting news: we have Alevin! Our Trout eggs are beginning to hatch into Sac Fry or Alevin and will live off the attached yolk sacs for now. It is so amazing to observe the changes and we are looking forward to parading through the school again on Fun Friday to share the news!
Meanwhile, it’s back to blustery winter and we all are so ready for spring! I’ve been noticing that many of the children seem tired these cold afternoons and are having trouble focusing on their work. We do our Journal writing in the morning, right after our Share Circle, and our phonics work as well. We fit in science and social studies activities and time for a quiet free choice before lunch. The afternoons are filled with more active Math centers and our Specials are at the end of the day. It is a busy, full day for our Kindergartners and we do our best to keep it fun and engaging.
We continue to enjoy our Gr. 1-2 Reading Buddies and are making progress towards meeting our goal of reading 100 books as a class. We have begun practicing writing both our first and last names (starting with an uppercase letter, followed by lowercase letters). We’ve been reviewing the letters Gg and Ww, and the high frequency words: have, for, of, they.
In Math we have been focusing on counting on and counting back, which helps in the familiarity of number facts. This in turn helps with mental math and simple addition and subtraction.
Our School District Meeting is this Saturday March 9 starting at 1 PM. I hope you will come support your children’s school. If the budget passes, a Gr. 2 teacher will be hired, and your kindergartners would then go into a straight Gr. 1 class with Ms. Clement, rather than a much larger combined Gr.1-2 class. Child care will be provided in the PreK classroom. Thanks!
Conferences will be held this coming Monday afternoon and evening and Tuesday morning. There is no school for students on Tues. March 12. Your conference time is attached.
We are looking forward to going to see a performance of Eric Carle’s “Hungry Caterpillar” next Thursday March 14 at the Lebanon Opera House. We have two extra tickets, so please contact me if you’d like to join us.
Stay warm and well and remember: Clocks ahead this weekend!
